Retail Automation

When Verifone embarked on a mission to provide an integrated retail automation system with "pay at the pump" credit card processing, they needed development help.

The program called for software project leaders capable of developing reliable embedded applications while balancing the often competing requirements of feature set, certification testing, customer branding and operator usability.  Phillip Yeager's technical leadership experience and customer interfacing skills made him a good fit.

At Verifone, Yeager designed automation control systems for petroleum/convenience stations.  As a project team lead, he coordinated development, customer certification and beta site efforts for customer-branded (Exxon, Citgo, Phillips 66) systems.  These systems included telecommunications protocols to banking hosts, communications to back-office PC, fuel pumps, car wash and scanners.   The software for these devices was coded in C.

The Industry Standard

Verifone’s Ruby SuperSystem is the go-to point of sale system for convenience stores, gas stations, and similar retailers.  It’s a workhorse of a system that has a fantastic reputation built on its reliability.   The system combines card processing, fuel dispensing, dispenser card reader (DCR) control, and ECR functions to meet the needs of fast-paced petroleum convenience store operations where quick customer turnaround, easy pump control, and accurate record keeping are imperative.
